5 Tips to Prepare For Your Arrival at Casamona and Your Trip Abroad
Doing your internship for the first time abroad can be stressful, even if you have travelled to another country before.
As you know, at Casamona we recruit many interns from abroad because we love diversity; We also know that being young students, many of us have to go through a lot of procedures and bureaucracy, which can become a problem in a country that is not your native one.
To help ensure that you are ready for your internship at Barcelona, here are 5 tips and one bonus to be completely prepared for your trip and internship.
CHECK YOUR EMAIL- and read up on the Handbook
Checking your email a week before arriving will help you to know what your role at Casamona will be. When you sign the Casamona contract, we usually send you the Casamona Handbook so you can know more about us, your department, and also what tasks are connected to which department. Also, a very good idea is to read up on the handbook, so you gain important basic knowledge about international real estate and Casamona.
FINDING A HOME
To find accommodation you can use these links to rent a flat:
https://badi.com/
Also, here is a link to our FB group to find a home_ https://www.facebook.com/groups/800226366684351/posts/944291818944471/?notif_t=group_activity
Always try to find out if there is a deposit. Additionally, think about taking pictures of the apartment on arrival so that you can provide evidence in case of a problem.
Be very aware and cautious as there is lots of fraud in Barcelona. Be sure the owner is really the owner. Ask for a copy of the IBI (tax). This is a document only a real owner has to show ownership of a property.
PREPARING YOUR DOCUMENTS FOR YOUR FLIGHT
If you want to find a flight with a good price, you'll have to do it in advance. Use google flight or Skycanner, to ensure you're getting a good deal.
We want to meet you in time for your arrival so that your integration into Casamona can take place in the best conditions.
For this, please ensure that your passport, identity card or European health insurance card are all renewed.
TRANSPORT IN BARCELONA- Get a «T-Jovenes"
In Barcelona we have different means of transport: bus, train, subway, taxi etc.
As an intern you can purchase a ticket offered by the city of Barcelona to foreign students that can be used on each of these types of transport… except for taxis of course.
How does it work ?
Find a metro station when you arrive in Barcelona, look here ↙️
Now you can register yourself to get a subscription. Several different subscriptions will be displayed on this screen, You need to choose the subscription "T-Jovenes" a subscription of 3 months for only 80 euros. However, if you stay with us for 6 months you will need to renew it for 3 more months. We recommend this card as you can then go all over Barcelona at much better value than buying other subscriptions such as the 10 journey tickets.
KEEP YOUR BELONGINGS SAFE
This isn’t to scare you, but to prevent it happening! Know that in Barcelona there are a lot of pickpockets so you will have to be very careful with your documents. Never go out with the originals and always keep photocopies in your bag or on your phone.
The technology we have now means you can have your bank cards on your phone to make purchases, or you can always withdraw money.
Sabadell is a bank that will allow you to withdraw with low fees. Furthermore, we recommend that you don’t have a nice bag with you when you walk around- If it looks too expensive someone might try and take it from you.
FINDING OUR OFFICE
Before your first day we would advise you to do some scouting out to see where exactly our company is located. Arriving and looking for the company on the same day risks of getting lost quickly and y arriving late.
WHAT TO BRING
You should have a fast computer as everything at Casamona is online.
Nice, professional working clothes, we can't look like students.
A phone with a good camera, so you take good pictures.
